2024 (5.5e) vs 2014 (classic 5e)
The 2024 rules move ability score increases from your species to your background, add an Origin feat, give martial classes Weapon Mastery, and standardise subclasses to level 3. Does this use the 2024 D&D rules (5.5e)?
Yes. It is built on the SRD 5.2 (the 2024 ruleset, sometimes called 5.5e): species instead of races, ability score increases from your background, an Origin feat, Weapon Mastery for martial classes, and all subclasses chosen at level 3. The 2014 (classic 5e) rules are still available with one click.
What is different about a 2024 character?
Your species (e.g. Human, Elf, Orc, Goliath) grants traits but no ability bonuses — those come from your background, which also grants an Origin feat. Martial classes get Weapon Mastery properties on their weapons, and every class picks its subclass at level 3.
Which species and backgrounds are supported?
The SRD 5.2 species — Dragonborn, Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Goliath, Halfling, Human, Orc, and Tiefling — and the SRD backgrounds (Acolyte, Criminal, Sage, Soldier), each with its ability options and Origin feat.
